California, Stand Up for the US: Vote YES on Prop 50

It’s November 3, and do you know what that means? Election Day is just a day away. Pennsylvania voters will decide whether to keep the state Supreme Court in the hands of Democrats. Voters in New Jersey and Virginia will elect new governors. And in California, voters will weigh in on Proposition 50, also known as the Election Rigging Response Act.

Why Proposition 50 matters?

Proposition 50 is California’s effort to empower the people, not the partisan political players. As we recently wrote:

“Proposition 50 is California Democrats’ response to the Republican power grab in Texas. And it’s exactly what good trouble looks like. This temporary plan to change congressional maps is so critical to the nation that it warrants a special election.”

There’s more at stake than just Congress. Imagine waking up the day after the elections (or staying up until the wee hours, let’s get real) and seeing the formation of the next blue wave (recall that in Trump’s first term, buoyed by astonishingly low approval ratings, Trump lost 40 House seats in 2018). “If Democrats pull off a strong win in New Jersey and an even stronger one in Virginia, you could see a change in tone from the GOP in Washington,” declares political analyst Doug Usher. These elections present an opportunity in an “off-year” for voters to defy Trump, to register their frustration with his policies, lies and cruelty, and bellow, “I’m mad as hell, and I’m not gonna take it anymore!”

What will happen if Proposition 50 doesn’t pass?

• Republicans are more likely to retain control of the House and gain an even greater advantage. With increased support for President Trump’s screwed-up priorities, he will be able to exert even more influence on our policies, values, and culture. If you’re not sure what this means, think about what White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt recently said: “At this moment in time, of course, the ballroom is really the President’s main priority.” Also at this moment in time: the government shutdown nears its sixth week, layoffs are snowballing, and Trump is trying to weasel out of court orders requiring the administration to feed Americans on SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program).

• And Democrats really need to care about every seat in Congress. Forty-one days after a free and fair election in Arizona, Speaker Mike Johnson still refuses to swear in Democratic Representative Adelita Grijalva, because he knows hers would be the final vote to force him to release the Epstein pedo-files. Political gamesmanship to protect Trump will certainly continue and worsen with a larger Republican majority.

• Also as Republican sycophants in Congress cede what remains of their backbone, Trump gains more power. Trump seems determined to emulate dictators with false sham but damaging shows of strength. Whether he’s demanding a military parade, firing live ammunition over busy California freeways, or using the National Guard to police and terrorize US cities, Trump utilizes the US military as his personal armed force. Trump will only become emboldened and more brazen with a bigger Republican majority in Congress.

What you need to know…

The USPS has initiated new policies on same-day postmarking. While the whys or what fors are debateable (or even why Louis DeJoy was postmaster general through 2025), let’s focus on the bottom line: If you mail your ballot on Election Day, it may not be postmarked that day, which means it will not be counted. So if you are reading this and haven’t already mailed your ballot, it’s too late! But don’t worry, you can still ensure that your vote counts. Simply bring your completed and signed ballot to a polling place or a drop box in your county.

These are just a few of the actions that Republicans will support if they get an undefeatable majority in the US Congress. Proposition 50 will help keep the vote rigging of Republican states like Texas from hurting our nation.
