There is a strange moment that happens on Sunday afternoon.
You realize the weekend is almost over, but you do not feel restored.
Saturday may have disappeared into sleeping longer, cleaning, errands, groceries, laundry, messages you ignored during the week, and a few hours of scrolling because your brain did not have the energy for much else.
Then Sunday arrives.
You finally begin to slow down, but now part of your mind is already thinking about Monday.
What time do you need to wake up?
What is waiting for you?
What did you forget?
What needs to be prepared?
You technically had two days off.
Yet somehow, you are returning to the week with only a little more energy than you had when you left it.
This is what I think of as the recovery gap.
It is the distance between the amount of recovery your life requires and the amount of recovery your schedule actually allows.
And for many people, the gap keeps getting wider.
