There is a moment just before procrastination takes over when something interesting happens in the brain.

The task hasn’t become impossible. You haven’t decided not to do it. Yet suddenly, everything else seems more appealing.

Checking your phone feels important. Making coffee feels necessary. Organizing something feels productive. Even staring at the ceiling can seem easier than beginning.

Most people respond by telling themselves they need more discipline. But what if the real problem isn’t finishing the task? What if your brain is resisting the starting cost?

A difficult task creates uncertainty, effort, and the possibility of discomfort before you’ve even begun. Your brain sees all of that at once—and naturally looks for something easier.

But there is a simple way to make the first step feel almost too small to resist. And it takes only 10 minutes.
