Mike Donnelly-Boylen · The Mission Brief

Many people believe the hardest part of obesity treatment is losing weight.

The evidence suggests otherwise.

Ask anyone who has maintained a significant weight loss, and you’ll often hear a different answer.

The scale may stop moving, but the questions don’t. How much weight regain is normal? What happens when motivation fades? Why can it be so difficult to trust that success will last? And what role should medications, lifestyle changes, or even metabolic surgery play in a long-term maintenance plan?

On Monday, June 16 at 7 PM ET, Weight & Measure welcomes Leslie Golden and Robyn Pashby for a conversation about what happens after the weight comes off.

Dr. Golden brings the perspective of an obesity medicine physician helping patients navigate the realities of long-term treatment and maintenance. Dr. Pashby brings expertise in the psychological and behavioral aspects of obesity care. Together, we’ll explore the biology of maintenance, the emotional challenges of living in a changed body, the fear of weight recurrence, and what sustainable long-term success really looks like.

We’ll discuss:

  • When someone transitions from weight loss to maintenance

  • Why motivation often fades over time

  • How to think about a 5-, 10-, or 15-pound regain without panic

  • What successful GLP-1 maintenance strategies look like

  • When metabolic surgery should become part of the conversation

  • How to approach weight recurrence without shame or self-blame

Weight loss may be measured in pounds.

Maintenance is measured in years.
