Our second league match was an away game against Parke. Things didn’t go our way this week, and we lost heavily 5-19 to 0-5. To top things off, I sprained my finger pretty badly too. The same one that I dislocated 17 years ago in another football match!
Last night the Castlebar Mitchels Junior team started another year of competitive football with a home match against Westport. I was picked at centre back where I haven’t played for a really long time, so I was nervous heading out. To add to the nerves I was picked as captain for the game too! That was some honour, I’ve only been playing with the club for a year really and to think that the…
Last Sunday, during our weekly long club run we got to talking about silly challenges. Someone mentioned they had heard of a “24 park runs in 24 hours” challenge and we chatted about whether or not that’d even be possible. Whatever about running 24 park runs in 24 hours, for a total of 120km. That’s hard enough. But then do you do the same Parkrun 24 times? Or 24 different Parkruns? And how would…
Last Saturday in Tullamore, I ran in the Tullamore Half Marathon. The race doubled up as a few championship races: Offaly Half Marathon Championships Leinster Half Marathon Championships National Half Marathon Championships That meant a very healthy entry list, and Mayo AC sent around 40 athletes to compete along with a bus to bring us there. An early start with persistent rain, we were picked up…
We’ve got a couple of these Kidizoom phones in the house and the girls are very protective of them so of course they set a password to access them. And of course they regularly forget their password too! So how can we get past this? Luckily there’s a way to clear the password and get into the phone without doing a full factory reset. Wake the phone from sleep Press any button to get to the…
After almost eleven years, my time at GitHub has come to a close. I’ve been swept up as part of the Microsoft layoffs and been made redundant. I’m going to take some time to figure out how I feel about this situation and to think about what I want to do next. For the moment, I’m going to spend more time with my family and get away from being always online. I’ve had some great times as a Hubber…
For the Mayo AC 5k series this year, the club asked members to write up a short profile by answering some running related questions which were then posted on the club website. I took part and my profile was added to the site in June. To keep a record of it, I’m copying my answers here Blacklion, Co. Cavan native Mike Griffin runs anything from 400m up to the marathon and has been a key member of…
Last night I played my first full match for Castlebar Mitchels. I was bitten again by the bug after watching the girls play and joined up with the Junior team for this year. We had to concede two league games before this because of lack of numbers but we had enough for a team yesterday. I was picked to play at wing back (number 7) against Westport in the Junior C championship on a scorcher of an…
