A while ago a person reached out to me for a print of a sketch I made 3 years ago. It was a sketch of a Red barn and it reminded me of a very heartwarming experience.
It was my wife’s birthday and she was picking out a jewelry to buy at this store called the Garrett’s antiques and Indian shop. She loves this place and we have been here before.
It was a blazing hot day, and I waited outside sketching the red barn next door. As I was drawing drowning in sweat, Ronnie—the owner of the shop—quietly brought over a parasol and set it up over me so I could draw in the shade. He didn’t say a word, just gave that small, kind gesture and walked away.
Later, I got to chat with him and heard incredible stories about his time in the military and his travels all around the world.
I recently learned that Ronnie passed away. Jennifer, who reached out to order the print of this sketch, shared the news with me which brought back all these memories.
There’s something deeply special about the connections made through art—unexpected, beautiful, and lasting. This one really stayed with me.
Here are 2 video clips that were shared on Instagram 3 years ago.
