The Rundown: Monday edition

Two games. Two wins in Canada.

No surprise the Boilermakers are 2-0 on their trip to Vancouver with two games left to play. Purdue dispatched Trinity Western on Sunday, winning 82-66 at the Langley Events Centre.

Daniel Jacobsen totaled 14 points and five rebounds, and Antione West Jr, backed up his 20-point performance on Saturday with 13 points, four rebounds and three steals.

West moved into the starting lineup for Game 2, joining C.J. Cox, Omer Mayer, Caden Pierce and Jacobsen.

The Boilermakers made double-digit 3-pointers for the second straight game, totaling 14, led by three from West. Gicarri Harris, who scored 18 in the first game, finished with 11. Jack Benter added 10, and Pierce collected seven points and seven rebounds.

Ten players logged double-digit minutes, with Cox, West and Mayer playing 21.

Purdue took advantage of 20 turnovers, scoring 27 points.

Trinity Western, which was within seven points with 5:15 to play before a 16-7 run by the Boilermakers, will play Marquette on Thursday. The Spartans will also face Grand Canyon, Oregon and Oregon State through mid-August.

Purdue takes on the University of Calgary at Simon Fraser University on Tuesday (9 p.m. ET).

Katie Gearlds still doesn’t have a full roster for summer workouts, missing three players who have either signed or announced their commitments.

The lone signee of the group - Maya Zilbershlag (Israel) - is scheduled to arrive in August after playing in the FIBA U18 EuroBasket tournament in Romania. Israel’s first game is Friday against Switzerland.

When contacted, Zoja Stirn (Slovenia) - who committed in May - said she’s waiting to finish up the paperwork.

“We are almost done,” Stirn said. “I don’t know the date, but it shouldn’t be long now.”

Jada Bobozo (France) is the latest player to commit, but Purdue hasn’t announced her signing. If all three land in West Lafayette, Gearlds will have 15 players on her roster.

Where will the Boilermakers land in the unofficial Big Ten preseason polls?

There were two last year - Cleveland.com and one compiled by Doug Lesmerises, who started the Cleveland.com poll when the conference had 11 teams back in the day. Lesmerises is now part of the Substack network (Bill and Doug Show: Premium Ohio State writing & talk.

The Boilermakers were picked 18th in both polls last year. Purdue was also selected No. 18 in the Cleveland.com poll in 2024.

The polls should be out before media day starts in Chicago at the Hilton on Michigan Ave. - the same hotel where “The Fugitive” was filmed - when festivities begin on Tuesday.

Purdue will have its day before the scribes, TV, radio and streaming personalities, bloggers and Substackers on Wednesday, before the event wraps up Thursday.

Quarterback Ryan Browne, linebacker Charles Correa and receiver De’Nylon Morrissette will represent the Boilermakers, along with coach Barry Odom.

On Monday, athletic director Mike Bobinski will hold his first press conference since announcing his retirement.
