Dear friends 🍂 🍁 🪶

I hope you’re as safe & well as you can be. :)

This is my first new poem in a while! I wrote it during an Ekphrasis-focused writing group, led by the wonderful Elizabeth Pinborough, over at Conscious Writer’s Collective. Alongside Kazumasa’s “Tree Peony,” one of my tattoos, drawn by Sammy (Sleepy Pokes), seeped in… Of course, much more did, too.

I hope you enjoy. 🐉 🥀

Thank you so much for reading, as always. Please take care of yourselves (as well as you’re able). ❤️‍🩹

With care & gratitude,

Mik

after Ogawa Kazumasa’s "Tree Peony" (1896) & my dragon tattoo
Here the peony pales, bleeding into its heart rather than out. This year, the bush only bloomed one flower, the colour of blood & blush echoing one another’s ink.
After I picked it, & carried it to water, a dragon flew down my left arm along the arteries, away from home. In a cloud of moons & stardust she glides, muscles & wings taut, toward a semi-colon; literature’s flower. I fear she’ll never reach it; never leave it, either. A promise, instead, to remain in the sky? Even if flying low, even if alone, even if to direct all that ink-blood to one little place in the universe, just to remain open to life.
