Bob MacDonald, Sr., 1935-2025. Yesterday was the first anniversary of my dadโ€™s death. He was a great father and a wonderful teacher, among many other things. We held off on publishing his obituary while getting his estate sorted. I decided to publish it on his anniversary.

Wednesday waves ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ‘‹ (๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธI forgot to post yesterday) Sunlight strikes the wave crests. I love watching them go from gray to bright white gradually. Manzanita, 6:30 am.

Wednesday waves. ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ‘‹ Video + photo. Shot from up above on a sand dune. The audio is meh because of 15 mph winds. You can hear the dune grass crackling.

Wednesday waves. ๐ŸŒŠ ๐Ÿ‘‹ Video + photo. I went out later than usual, an overcast day with most of the color washed out, but the sun glinting on silvery gray waves looked interesting.

Wednesday waves. Photo + video. From the viewpoint on Highway 101, so more traffic sounds than ocean sounds. Itโ€™s neat to see the fog receding after being blanketed the last 24 hours. ๐ŸŒŠ Pacific Wave Appreciation Society ๐Ÿ‘‹

Wednesday waves for the Pacific Wave Appreciation Society. Video + photo.

I added two new greeting cards to the Well-Tempered Cards shop on Etsy. Itโ€™s fun to look at the whole collection, each photo a little capsule of a moment of awe.

Wednesday waves. Video + photo. An overcast misty day, with Starfish Rock in the foreground.

Seal pup, dropped off on the beach by its mother while she hunts. Video + photo. Everyone stayed well away, including me. (I was using a telephoto lens.) This little one was determined to get back in the water. / May 30, 2026, 7 am. Low tide.

Itโ€™s been a while since I posted something for the Pacific Wave Appreciation Society. Iโ€™m going to try doing a Wednesday Wave series. For the video, I dusted off my DJI Osmo 3 gimbal to provide a steadier viewing experience. ๐Ÿ˜‡ Shot today at 1:35, swells 6.8 ft. ๐ŸŒŠ

The Photos app surfaced this 2024 photo today. โค๏ธ Bob (my dad) with the Bob Moore statue at Bobโ€™s Red Mill . I hope they are making pancakes together in heaven. ๐Ÿฅž

The color on the beach at the moment of sunset yesterday. Iโ€™m still glowing, just thinking about it. Cropped but no other editing, iPhone 17 Pro.

When I was a little girl, I knew there was a prince in England born the same year as me, and I expected that I would somehow meet him so I could marry him and become a princess. ๐Ÿ‘ธ๐Ÿผ File that under โ€œcareful what you wish for.โ€ ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Sneaker wave alert this weekend. Not everyone got the memo. (The woman did eventually hop up onto the dune, and was not swept away.)

I finally upgraded to the iPhone 17 Pro. The 8x zoom setting is for photographing the wild ocean waves while staying dry on the shore.

The Pacific Ocean listened to my King Tides feedback . Today I saw lots of foamy white waves and the swell height was 12 ft. (video + photo) Also: big winds, sun, and hail. I wondered if I should be wearing a helmet. Welcome to Oregon coast.

Last day of January King Tides, and last of the season. (video + photo) My favorite waves were in November . December and January were tame by comparison. โ˜… โ˜… โ˜… โ˜… โ˜† Waves could be bigger and frothier. Will visit again next November.

There are a lot of visitors on our beach in this holiday week. Itโ€™s almost impossible to get a photo without dogs in the frame. ๐Ÿฅฐ

For the Pacific Wave Appreciation Society and anyone who likes watching waves: itโ€™s King Tides Eve, and the sunrise high tide gave a little preview of whatโ€™s to come. (photo + video) Happy New Year to all. ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป ๐ŸŒŠ ๐ŸŒฒ ๐Ÿ”๏ธ

What a difference a day makes. The treacherous mouth of the Columbia on a sunny less windy morning. Clear enough to see how far the jetty goes. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

For the Pacific Wave Appreciation Society: the massive waves at the mouth of the Columbia River, โ€œone of the most treacherous waterways in the world,โ€ as the sign says.

I saw this bumper sticker, and it made me think we need one for the Pacific Wave Appreciation Society. ๐ŸŒŠ (And, on the same walk I spotted a beach fort!)

One of favorite photos from last weekโ€™s king tides. Unflappable Seagull is not perturbed by the wind, waves or driftwood. (Nedonna Beach, South Jetty of Nehalem Bay) (I have to admit I wouldnโ€™t mind getting a โ€œrealโ€ camera and zoom for a shot like this.)
