Mike Kowalczyk was my second kiss.
Only minutes after kissing Summer in the basement of an Upper East Side synagogue, it was my turn to spin the bottle again.
And this time, the odds were in my favor - it landed on Mike.
I had had a crush on Mike for months (which is a lifetime in middle school) and this was our first time interacting outside of class.
I couldn’t believe my luck! The kiss was magical… or at least as magical as a very chaste kiss in a musty synagogue basement in front of seven other thirteen-year-olds can be.
We parted lips and I knew in my heart that the trajectory of our lives would never be the same.
Then it was his turn. He spun the bottle, and it landed on Summer.
By Monday they were dating.
