Hi!
We just got back from our Summer holiday and despite traveling with an 8 month old, it actually felt like my first ever vacation. I chose to give myself a break from my weekly publishing schedule and couldn’t be happier about it. And even though I didn’t go to college, I wholeheartedly agree with the below statement…
We live in a time where anything and everything can be work/content/inspiration, so it’s actually a choice to turn off. Instead of using my holiday locations for mini photo shoots, I just chilled and spent time with my fam n friends! Of course there were photos being taken (I am a millennial model after all) but I didn’t owe any brands anything. How refreshing to be off the clock!
Summer is an interesting time to be online… Maybe you’ve gone on holiday early and spend 2 months watching everyone gallivant around Europe or maybe you’re staying put and having a chill one at home. Either way, it’s hard not to get fomo.
I have been lucky to travel more than most do in their entire lives because of my job, so I don’t really get vacation fomo, but I do get productivity and work fomo. I think this also can be because I just took a lot of time off while being pregnant and now am emerging back into work. I read and subscribe to quite a few newsletters that are very inspiring to me and am always impressed by the quality and quantity of content they produce! These gals and guys are hustling and I love to see it! And I like to hustle too. I’m just coming to terms with the output capacity that I have as a new mom and as a human being in general.
I have to admit I got a little caught up in pushing out an issue every week and trying to make it as good as possible and not to mention, profitable! I see lots of people make making the most of this platform and I’d love to do the same! I can get really stressed when I don’t have my newsletter finished and have a pit in my stomach like I’m gonna get fired. But who’s gonna fire me?
I like producing my little weekly magazine with an editorial team of exactly 1! It takes a lotttt of effort and time, but it really does fill my cup. Taking some time off has helped me refocus and tap into the things I really care about and want to share! For example, the pie I forced my husband to drive over an hour out of our way to pick up, a hotel experience that made us feel so truly at home, my new favorite tshirt and a hyperlocal honeyberry shake.
We had such an amazing time with our daughter, extended family and friends and I can’t wait to tell you all about it, but I needed to get this out of the way first! For anyone feeling a little burnt out, consider this permission to step off the hamster wheel for a week or two. Chances are, your readers will be fine without you, and you’ll be refreshed and inspired to return.
See you next week with all the goodies…
XO
Michèle
