Today is my birthday, and I have to say age doesn’t really matter to me anymore. It hasn’t for quite a few years now. It’s just another reason to celebrate!
And I have plenty to celebrate this week—Teacher Appreciation Week. Even though I’m not a teacher, I’m still part of the staff and get all the goodies, too. Our PTO has spoiled us with all kinds of food—breakfast pastries, Mexican, pizza, and today is ice cream.
I also have some exciting news to share. I only have ten days left of the school year—not that I’m counting!—and I start a new part-time job at a local indie bookstore this Sunday. I am so thrilled about this one.
I’ll be working there a few hours a week during the school year plus more hours on school vacations. This will be so much better than what I did last summer and over spring break a couple of months ago.
I’m also excited to be back here on Substack. I’ve missed being here, and I’m looking forward to showing up for you more consistently again.

After the Mending Hearts launch last week, my brain needed a little rest, and I’m giving it one. That doesn’t mean I’m not thinking about the next book because I am. I’ve been jotting ideas down.
I’ve written a short story, probably more like a novelette, about the two main characters that I intend to give away soon once I have a cover for it. For the rest of this week, though, I’m focusing on marketing for Mending Hearts.
Hi, friends, it's Jessie! Belle and I have been enjoying the warm sunny days outside while we could. We ran—or walk in Belle’s case—all over our fenced-in backyard. I can tell Mom loves soaking up the sun, too.
The last couple of days have been chilly and rainy, though, and I know Mom misses the sun. I have a feeling with her new job at the bookstore that she’ll be able to have more backyard time and not be as tired so she can get more of her author work done this summer. I know she’s going to write another great book!
Of course, we also make sure she takes breaks, so I bug her to take us out when she’s been sitting at her desk too long.
