Perseverance

Changes are inevitable. There was a time when I fought them and tried to resist them. But that time, that person is long gone. Gone are days when I did something because I had and gone are days when I pushed myself to do things that weren’t mine anymore. Changes happened. Good changes, welcomed ones. One thing hasn’t changed though. Untitled is still alive. So am I. Not only alive, but more alive…

Reflections

Transformative moments can happen unexpectedly. Like it did for me a few weeks ago. I broke my hand, and then I spent a few weeks with my right dominant hand in a cast. Everything around me slowed down, and I slowed down. And then the clarity came. Like it always does. One day I’ll share what I’ve learned and how deeply it changed me. But it’s not this day. This day I want to share another story.…

Socialized

My watch notified me that my friend had just finished a workout. I took my phone and sent him congratulations; it was a good one. Then we spent a few more minutes chatting about other things. In the meantime, I saw that another one uploaded a photo to the shared album. And somebody else made a comment, and others liked the photo. The same group was talking on the chat about the movie someone saw a…

Inevitable

Passing is a frequent theme in my reflections. Time passes, seasons pass, we pass. Passing is a frequent theme in my reflections because it’s a frequent theme in our lives. Everything passes. Good things and bad things as well. And then, when they’re gone, I wonder who am I now? Who am I when they, the experiences, the people, the obstacles, and joys, are gone? Who am I? After those all things I…

To you

The latest blog resurgence is mostly related to some reflections and observations I’ve gathered recently. I would like to keep the pace of writing them here, but I’m quite sure that won’t happen. Life can be too busy often. And if something could be a pleasure, it cannot be pushed. There are moments when I envy all those people who can publish every day, or weekly, or on any regular basis. I’m not…

Waiting

Waiting is easier. I am used to waiting. I always have waited. Waiting is a way to hide, and hiding is easy. Showing up isn’t. There always is something to wait for. It can be a weekend, it can be a thing in the future that will happen, it can be a month, a season, a year. There are so many things one can wait for. And I waited. Waiting is easier. Waiting means that I do not need to face the…

Life update #5

Things in life happen, some are good, some not so, and it really doesn’t matter if I like it or not. I’ve been learning a lot lately, but that is something I can say every time, in every life update post. This is something that I have also learned recently: if I can’t do anything about the situation, I can at least learn from it, maybe to avoid it in the future, maybe to get to know something…

Intimacy

Words haven’t been easy to form in sentences lately. Sentences didn’t want to form paragraphs. I stopped writing. At the beginning, it had made me concerned, but later I realized that it’s okay to be away. It’s okay to be away from the online world as long as it makes me close to the offline world. But I was away from the offline world as well. I was away. I was suspended in a void, in a place…

The Road

Something has to change. I have to change something. I want to change something. Although I don't know what. I don't know how. The last few months have happened, and things have happened during them. I accept most of them most of the time, but still something has to change. I have to change something. Life and the world and the whole universe, they all have this ugly characteristic. They don't…

Nowhere

In the middle of nowhere, in the wilds of Georgia, there's a place. There's a place that changed me deeply, there's a place that saved me suddenly. I didn't expect that, would I have decided to go there if I had known? I didn't know the answer for many years, but now I do. Yes.

Passages

The end of the year is for many a reason to write some reviews and plans. The need to reflect at such a time is understandable, although the feeling has never appealed to me. One thing is to keep a chronicle, which I find somehow valuable, another thing is to treat the end of the year as something magical that could change something. We're the same, the planet is the same, humanity is the same.…

Mountain

It was 2017 when I saw her. The Mountain. I didn’t climb, I promised myself that I’ll be back and never did. Most probably it will never happen, but I’m okay with that. Some things have changed, some had to go for good. But the picture stayed. The mountain. Kazbek, Georgia, Europe.

Decay

The chair disappeared a few days after I took the photo. I was walking home from the nearby grocery store when I spotted it, about two hundred meters from my place. I stood there for some time, watching, thinking, imagining, before I took out my phone and snapped the photo. It disappeared a few days later, but my thoughts and this photo have stayed forever.

Unknown

Walking through the narrow streets of Lisbon, one could forget the troubles. It was 2018. The previous year was full of changes for me, my relationship ended in a rather ugly way, I was unemployed and then some unexpected things happened. But 2018 started well. Lisbon was the place for me to recover. And I did. And it was the last time I did that for a couple of years. I didn't know what was going…

Her

Our first travel together. We were getting ready to leave and go for breakfast. It was a warm September morning, the sun shining through the window. I grabbed my phone and took a picture of her. She's as beautiful as a warm September day.

Something new

Words aren’t the only way I want to express myself. There are also pictures. For a few weeks I’ve been looking for a place that I could use to share them. Nothing has met my needs. It took me some time to look at the most obvious place. But here I am, with the new format for blog posts. Photos, maybe even drawings, will be a big part of this site from now on. Words won’t disappear, they won’t even…

Experiences

It was, after all, a bad idea. Last week I did a thing . And as I’ve been living with the thing for a week, something wasn’t exactly right inside my mind. Something was concerning me. Today I realized that the thing wasn’t the clever idea I thought it would be. So, now the thing is gone. That’s me. I like experimenting. I like experiencing things. Instead of thinking long, I just do. And then I…

Dreams

Dreams can be persistent. The first time I thought about living from writing was when I was twenty. It’s been some time since then. The dream has come and gone, influenced by many factors, but it has never fully disappeared. There are days and months when I don’t think about it, and others when I can’t think of anything else. Dreams are meant to be realized, but it’s not that simple. Not every…

Reflections #1

Thoughts have haunted me recently. Thoughts about many things I have done, I have experienced, and about some things I have witnessed. Those thoughts deserve a space to be expressed, but they’re not thoughts for a longer post. But they deserve more than a bullet point. Hence the new format. Thoughts but longer, let’s call them reflections. Quality over quantity A few weeks ago, I received an…

Connections

After a few weeks of hesitation, I’ve decided to lose my approach to my social visibility a bit. That means joining Mastodon again, what I’ve done some time ago. But that also means reinstalling Signal. If you want to stay in touch (I encourage you to do so!), you can use the username I have on Signal: mikezelazny.01 , you can put that username in the app, or simply click it; there’s a link to the…
