The fate of CNN, undoubtedly the world’s most famous name in news, hangs in the balance. I will tell you here what’s going to happen to it.
Though I’m not sure you should care.
CNN is not actually the CNN you might still think of when you think of CNN. It’s now, mostly, the number three cable news station in a quickly eroding, if not collapsing, cable television industry. It has substantially cut back on its newsgathering capabilities and has pulled back on its international footprint and ambitions.
But Donald Trump, as much as anyone, continues to think that CNN is CNN. He hates it for that—and he thinks he’s using his power to kill it.
