These wild horses surprised me. In a good way. It was 70 degrees in late December on Cumberland Island. Barefoot at the beach counting my blessings, like I do when I’m so obviously reminded of them.

I was up on the sand dunes overlooking the vast open space, daydreaming and lollygagging around taking in the scenery, photographing the obvious sunny beach and birds, out of nowhere I turn to the left and about 30 yards away stands 3 horses. “What the heck. Where did you all come from”?

They came so close I couldn’t photograph them in scene. I had to continue backing down the dunes. With my camera (and my new horse friends) I back down the dunes to get a better composition as they are grazing. Then boom, they take off running and bumping into each other playfully, like kids. It is lots of fun to watch such large animals naturally play so graceful.

I hope you enjoy the images as much as I enjoyed taking them.
