The Cartoonists and Cartoons

Sixteen cartoons, seventeen cartoonists (Roz Chast has a Sketchbook). Two duos, that we know of. No newbies. The longest active cartoonist in the issue is this cartoonist (I began contributing in 1977).

We note this week the passing, at age 95, of one of The New Yorker‘s longest contributing colleagues, the wonderful Edward Frascino. The Spill‘s 2020 interview with Mr. Frascino was reposted yesterday — you can read it here. Below: a Frascino cartoon published in The New Yorker, November 21, 1988

The Rea Irvin Talk Watch

Back in May of 2017 someone thought it a good idea to hire a contemporary illustrator to re-do Rea Irvin’s classic Talk heading, shown directly above (it had been in place for 92 years). The Spill continues to hope Mr. Irvin’s work returns.
