I’m a life-long Dodger fan, but I won’t be watching the Dodgers/Cubs game tonight. First, because the assholes who run the league have blacked the game out in — can you believe it — Chicago. Second, I’m so pissed at the Dodgers, not only for losing the last four games —including getting swept by the Red Sox — but especially for going to the White House to celebrate last year’s World Series Victory with POS Trump.
I’m really not worried about the repeat champs. They just got super-armed, generational ace pitcher Tarik Skubal from Detroit, which should make the road to a third straight win in October a lot easier.
The rich really do get richer, don’t they?
Tip of my Brooklyn Dodger cap to Mookie Betts, Kiké Hernández, and Edgardo Henriquez for staying home. Kiké was the only one of the three who refused to go to the White House for political reasons. He’s been an outspoken critic of ICE raids.
I’ve always had to separate my love for baseball and the Dodgers from my disdain for the billionaire boys clubbers who own the teams. So I’m cheering the news coming out of Dodgertown that the team’s creepy owner, Mark Walter, is currently under federal investigation. Federal prosecutors and the SEC are investigating Walter’s insurance companies — Delaware Life Insurance Co. and Clear Spring Life & Annuity — for potential financial improprieties. The FBI seized Walter’s phone and laptop in September 2025 during a search warrant executed on his private plane at Chicago’s Midway Airport. This was part of a broader probe into Walter’s insurance empire and Guggenheim Partners, where he is CEO.
Walter’s business network has had financial ties to GEO Group, which operates ICE detention centers. Guggenheim Partners, the investment firm Walter leads, held a stake in GEO Group, the private‑prison corporation that runs ICE detention centers. SEC filings show Guggenheim previously owned over 1 million GEO shares worth more than $12 million.
And no…Walter is not a MAGA. He donated $30,800 to the Democratic National Committee Services Corporation and $5,000 to Obama For America PAC. He contributed $7,500 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and $7,500 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in 2013.
Instead, I’ll be on the stationary bike, watching election returns, especially those coming in from Michigan. The short list for lefties and progressives watching tonight’s primaries is clear: Michigan’s Democratic U.S. Senate primary is the main event, with a handful of House primaries in Michigan, Kansas, Missouri, Virginia, and Washington also testing the progressive–centrist party divide.
My favorite, Abdul El‑Sayed vs. Haley Stevens, is the marquee event of the night. El‑Sayed, backed by Sanders/Warren, is running as the progressive standard-bearer.
Stevens is the establishment-backed moderate with heavy outside funding (including major pro‑Israel PAC support).
Polls show El‑Sayed with a double‑digit lead, but Stevens’ supporters argue she’d be the stronger in November. That’s always their argument. It has rarely been true. Stevens does poll slightly ahead of Rogers in most recent public surveys, but always within the margin of error — meaning the race is effectively a toss‑up. Basically the same for El-Sayed.
Michigan remains a polarized, nationalized Senate battleground. Neither candidate has a structural advantage in November. But an El-Sayed big win will make his campaign against the MAGAs a national rallying point.
