Jen Orta Castellanos · Miami Film Lab

For those of you who missed our recent roundtable here is your chance to catch up with some of our community’s leading film non profit leaders.

It features: BRENDA MOE - Executive Director and Programming Director of Coral Gables Art Cinema, HANSEL PORRAS GARCIA - Cinematic Manager at Oolite Arts, JAMES WOOLLEY - executive Director of the Miami Film Festival, JENNIFER ORTA CASTELLANOS (Me) - Founder Miami Film Lab, JOSE JACHO - co-founder of Filmgate Miami and the Downtown Media Center, KEVIN ONDARZA co-founder of the White Elephant Group (WEG) Film Collective, SANDY LIGHTERMAN most recent President of Film Florida, and VIVIAN MARTHELL - Co-Founder and CEO/CCO at O Cinema,

We talk funding opportunities ( and how we wish there were more), how collaborative we all are, and our thoughts on film incentives ( this part gets a little spicy).

I wish the conversation hadn’t dwelled on funding for quite so long but not entirely surprised as funding continues to be a point of pain for nearly all filmmakers. Yet there is so much left to discuss so let us know what topics we missed, what questions you still have and what other people/organizations you want to hear from and we will work on planning another roundtable for the end of the year.

We are happy to announce the next talk in our Filmcraft Series. This year we are taking on a more workshop style and will give you real tips and tricks to help your career. We will have sessions on script supervising and props later on this summer/fall but fists up: CROWDFUNDING!

If you are fundraising for your film you have probably contemplated a crowdfunding campaign. In this workshop we will discuss:

  • What to consider before you launch

  • How long you should be ready to work on the campaign before it launches and after it is complete

  • how to leverage the results ( both money raised and audience members engaged ) to continue to raise money and support for your film.

Bring your questions and concerns about Crowdfunding to:
