I Recently Joined and I'm Already Leaving Substack

This might come across as counterintuitive, since most of us joined Substack to share our gifts and grow audiences, but I’m choosing to bring things back home.

Memos of a Maven is leaving Substack and returning to my website.

I jumped on Substack with my first publication not long ago because it seemed like the right place to be.

Seeing the countless creatives, inspiring content, and posts that make me realize we’re all living similar lives and sharing our gifts in the most beautiful ways— it just felt right.

But after reading the Threads discourse and digging into a few articles, I realized this doesn’t actually make sense for me (and possibly for you). Whether it’s the notification culture paired with the push to keep audiences on the app, while disconnecting them from your actual content, it’s going to be a “no” for me.

I’m sure others might disagree, and they have every right to do so.

As for me and the memos?

We’re packing it up and taking it all back where it belongs.

I believe experience is the best teacher, and much was gained from this one.

Sometimes you move fast and course-correct later, and this is definitely one of those moments.

Going forward, all memos will live at lashawndreher.com/memos. You can subscribe over there to keep getting updates on strategic insights and opportunities.

My other publication, Elle’s Queue, will live here for the time being, and I’ll still be around to keep supporting the many creatives I’ve found on this app.
