Rachel Snack · Memory Cloth by Rachel Snack

This is a series for paid subscribers, highlighting multi-shaft weaving patterns and drafts often inspired by my artist practice.

I’ve found myself finally retiring my “original laptop,” the one that I’ve had since 2009. I don’t use it anymore except as a hard drive, an archival object weighing 8 lbs that won’t turn on unless eternally connected to a power source.

Within this personal archive are hundreds of weave drafts, obsessively created and saved after years of poring over old books and weaving blogs. I have a lot to sort — and hopefully eventually share — but for now, here are a few that I particularly love.

Pattern name: Jitterbug

Source: A Handweaver’s Source Book by Marguerite Porter Davison, page 12. Original draft sourced from Bertha Gray Hayes.

Weaving notes: This is a block draft that can be woven as-is (overshot) or used as a profile draft for various structures like doublecloth, summer and winter, etc.
