Hi everyone!
I just came back from the most magical few days in Italy. Partly because I needed a vacation so so very badly, but mostly because I got to stay at one of my all-time favorite hotels, Le Sirenuse.
This newsletter is not an off-the-beaten-path recommendation newsletter. Le Sirenuse, the Sersale family’s beautiful red hotel overlooking Positano, is an institution for a reason. Established in 1951, it reigns over the Amalfi Coast but is anything but stuffy.
Carla, who runs the hotel with her husband Antonio and their sons Aldo and Francesco, also spearheads the brand Emporio Sirenuse, which so uniquely captures the aesthetic and refinement of the hotel, but also her Milanese sensibility and her love for all the cultures that visit Positano each summer. I got to wear some of the pieces on the trip, and I dream of the Suzani platters for my own (future) house overlooking a yet-to-be-determined sea.
One of my favorite things about the hotel is that something always seems new with each visit: art filling the walls (or the pool!), spaces reimagined as a family member gets inspired on their travels. At dinner on our last night, I asked Carla how they decide what changes, and she told me that much to her delight, the four of them seem to have a rather united vision for the hotel’s future. It’s an extension of our bodies, she says, constantly expanding and evolving.
The theme of this trip, through and through, was legacy, a topic that has come up a lot between Adam and me and was actually the impetus for this vacation. A few months ago, Adam had asked me
