Hello my dear friend
Here’s five things that brought me joy this week because joy is a salve and even the smallest thing can give us breath.
When not working with writers or writing, I’m knitting and listening to stories or thinking about my story. Knitting is honestly giving me so much joy at the moment.
House guest
This week, a good friend’s son moved from England to Australia. He’s only just turned eighteen and is moving to his dad’s country of origin for his uni years. We welcomed him into our home for his first week in the country as he found his jetlagged feet and trekked to the universities to decide which course was the right fit for him. It has been wonderful having another lad in the house, and a little discombobulating hearing his father’s voice only to turn and see it was him, not our friend, speaking. He’s now off to his grandparents in Tasi and we’re missing him already.
Snail mail
In May, I read The Correspondent and loved it so much, but the glue wasn’t great and the first ten pages fell out. As I was travelling, I decided that I would leave it and I wrote to Penguin Random House to let them know about the production issue. I had hoped they’d write back, in honour of what the book is about. This week I received a package from them! A replacement book and a handwritten letter. Huzzah!I’m trying to write a letter once a week as I love getting mail. Let me know in a DM if you’d like a handwritten letter.
Spring is coming
On one of my walks this week, I saw that fruit trees are beginning to blossom. We had a couple of days of sunshine and there was a whiff of spring in the air.And the days are getting longer! On Wednesday at my weekly 7 am Writing Momentum writing group, I looked out the window to see this stunning sunrise.
More warm hands
Yet another pair of gloves are off the needles, these ones are for my eldest’s girlfriend. I’ve got one more pair of these to make then all three girlfriends will have a pair…hoping they don’t think they’ve stumbled into a cult. This little project is reminding me of when my sister and I had matching dresses made by Mum, and dolls cardigans made by family friends.
Time and space write
I’ve gone away with my writing group to get stuck into my manuscript. As a friend of me said, I’m walking the talk. I run writing retreats because I know how valuable time at these can be. And I need them too. So, I’m sending this to you from Aireys Inlet where I’m tapping away at my keyboard and staring at the adjacent hill through rainbows.
Until next time, my friend, keep seeking joy in small, ordinary or defiant ways.
x M
If this gave you joy today but you’re not looking for another subscription, a one-off tip is a beautiful way to say thanks. x Meg
