Hello, Poetry Friend
This month I am sharing poems that sorta/kinda work with the Lectionary. This week: Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time.
If you read my “Maggie’s Lament” poem, I’m back in my West Texas voice for this one, inspired by Psalm 65. The Response is the psalm refrain in the Catholic Sunday lectionary. We sing (or say) the Response together as a congregation.

Psalm 65 Response: The seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest. Problem is you can’t never tell when soil’s any good You lease the land, love it like it’s your own, water when God and the government say so, prep it plow up the clods pour in your daysweat and nightthrashins and still you don’t rightly know— ‘S it gonna give back thirty? sixty? a hunnert? nuthin? Will the gin-man take more’n his share? Bank-man too? Will there be even one happy go lucky little ol’ grain left to harvest? I’m right thankful, Lord, cuz even without the kind of rain we’d like, come July, these lambs look to be all right. Mighty kind, Sir.
