Memorial Day weekend is one of the best shopping weekends of the year and I have been keeping a running list of everything I am eyeing. I put it all together here for you, organized by category, with links to everything I am actually buying or seriously considering.
• Trudie — our spring sale is still running through May 27th. Code SPRING20 for 20% off.
• The Company Store — I previously wrote about the bedding formula I use on our beds here. My go to down blanket is 30% off!
• Serena and Lily — the pedestal bowl in my Tabletop Capsule Collection is on sale and happens to be making an appearance below for fajita night! Also, a great time to grab these seagrass glasses.
• Ogee — my latest favorite clean beauty brand. I am currently using the cleansing cream and exfoliating cleanser, but see a few new items I may like to try!
• Think Sun - every year I stock up on this sunscreen brand. I buy a few of the sticks and sunscreen tubes and toss them in a bowl in our entry. Easy to grab on the way out the door to toss in a camp bag!
• Summer Fridays - not actually on sale, except this bundle is, and I put their shade drops on daily.
Clothing
• J.Crew — I’m in need of a new swimsuit and J.Crew is always reliable when it comes to swimsuits.
• Rothy’s — these espadrilles make an appearance in today’s setting the table post, these clogs I have wear daily and were also in last week’s breakfast post, and these are also really cute. I’m grabbing these for my big kid as a croc alternative!
• Patagonia is having a web sale and I already snagged this coat for my littler daughter.
It is Thursday and we are having fajitas. (This meal actually happened this past weekend with neighbors and is getting repeated with family visiting this weekend.) The table is set with the Constance placemats and the Abigail napkins and the Serena and Lily footed bowl full of tortilla chips sitting in the center like it belongs there, because it does. The rattan wrapped candles are lit. The palomitas are poured before anyone sits down.
Fajita night is one of my favorite tables in this series because it proves the point better than almost any other: a beautiful table does not care what night of the week it is.
The Table
• Serena and Lily pedestal bowl — filled with tortilla chips
• Stemless cocktail glasses for palomitas
• Chips and guacamole for pre-dinner snacking
• Sheet pan fajitas with all the toppings served family style - this is adapted from Serena Wolf’s fajita bowl recipe below
• Cilantro rice and black beans alongside
• Rosemary Palomitas to drink
• Ice cream sandwiches for dessert - store bought is perfect
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
½ teaspoon dried oregano
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
3 bell peppers (I like a combo of colors), seeded and thinly sliced
1 medium red onion, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast; flank or skirt steak; or large shrimp, peeled and deveined
Juice of 1 large lime
Directions:
1. Preheat the broiler to high. Position an oven rack about 6 inches beneath heat source. Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil.
2. Combine the chili powder, salt, black pepper, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper in a small bowl.
4. Add the bell peppers and onion to the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle with 1 ½ tablespoons of the oil, sprinkle with half of the spice mixture, and toss to coat. Broil for roughly 8 to 10 minutes, stirring once halfway through the cooking time, until the veggies are softened. (The veggies are going to continue cooking once you add the protein, so don’t overdo it here.)
5. If using chicken or steak, thinly slice it into roughly ¼-inch pieces. Drizzle your meat or shrimp with the remaining ½ tablespoon oil, sprinkle with the remaining spice mixture, and toss to coat. Add the meat or shrimp in an even layer on top of the veggies. Broil the chicken for about 5 minutes, until cooked through; steak for 3 to 4 minutes, until the desired degree of done ness; and shrimp for 3 to 4 minutes, until just opaque. Add the lime juice and stir to combine the meat / shrimp and veggies.
6. Serve with tortillas and all the toppings for a make your own fajita bar.
First option: the Alice Walk lavender skirt and tank. Add a colorful Bauble Bar necklace and off white Rothy’s.
Second option: the Tuckernuck gingham tie strap dress. Easy, colorful, completely right for a fajita night table. Same Bauble Bar necklace and off white Rothy’s.
