The handbag market has become strangely difficult to navigate. There are inexpensive bags, often made from synthetic materials, that look good online but disappoint in person. There are also plenty that cost $100, $200, even $300 but still feel cheap, with materials and construction that don’t justify the price. And then there are designer bags that routinely cost several thousand dollars, with prices increasingly disconnected from what you’re actually buying.

I discovered Maison de Sabré about two years ago and have built up a pretty substantial collection since then. I’ve been delighted with everything I own, which is why I wanted to feature the brand here.

The Australian leather goods company fills a gap I think is increasingly hard to find. The bags are made from full-grain leather, with interesting shapes, rich colors, and thoughtful details, at prices that reflect the quality without immediately jumping into traditional luxury territory.

And honestly, I think there is something quite chic about carrying an under-the-radar, high-quality bag. You’re choosing it because you genuinely love the design and appreciate the quality, not because everyone around you will recognize the name.

Maison de Sabré uses full-grain leather sourced from European tanneries that have received a Gold rating from the Leather Working Group. This means the tanneries have been independently audited and achieved the organization’s highest rating for responsible leather production. The assessment considers water and energy use, chemical management, waste, traceability, and health and safety. Sustainability claims can quickly become vague, but this is a legitimate third-party standard that gives the brand’s claims some substance.

One thing you’ll notice immediately on their website is the bag charms. Maison de Sabré has an extensive selection of colorful leather fruits, flowers, and animals and leans heavily on them in its marketing. They’re clearly meant to be a fun, whimsical point of difference. Personally, I think they distract a little from how sophisticated the bags themselves really are. Look past the charms and you’ll find beautiful leather, streamlined shapes, and thoughtful details that don’t need much embellishment. That said, their AirPod Case Charm is brilliant.

Maison de Sabré isn’t inexpensive, but I do think it offers excellent value. If you’re comfortable spending more on a handbag, the quality, materials, and design make this a brand worth knowing.

Here are my favorites:

1. The Duffle Bag: $725 in Pecan or Black | One of the more expensive pieces on the list, but absolutely stunning. It’s full-grain leather with a trolley sleeve, padded laptop compartment, dedicated phone and passport pockets, and a detachable shoulder strap. It holds enough for four to six days, making it a gorgeous alternative to a standard weekender.

2. The Small Soft Tote: $398 in 10 colors | It’s the perfect size if you want to add a little color, and the contrasting interior makes it feel even more special. The mini version of this is on sale for $259.70 and it is darling.

3. The Palais: $725 - $925 in five colors and two sizes | I have the Palais in the larger size, and this is a serious bag. It’s also the most expensive on my list, but it fits your entire life, including a 14-inch laptop, making it ideal for work or travel. Despite its size, it’s incredibly refined, with beautiful leather, subtle gold hardware, minimal branding, and a comfortable padded shoulder strap.

4. The Soft Trio: $508 in seven colors | A fantastic everyday bag with an adjustable strap that lets you wear it on your shoulder or crossbody. You can also add one of their colorful Twist Handles to customize it, which gives the bag an entirely different look.

5. The Mini Bucket Bag: $498 in six colors | One of my personal favorites. I love the shape, the handle, and the versatility. Carry it by the top handle or add the included strap to go hands-free. All six colors are gorgeous, but my pick is the plum with sky-blue details. It’s something a little different while still being incredibly wearable.

6. The Zipped Soft Tote: $498 in three colors | This is my everyday tote, and I love how much it holds without feeling bulky. The full zip top keeps everything secure, while the interior compartments give it just enough organization. It’s an easy, beautiful workhorse of a bag.

7. The Trifold Wallet: $168 in four colors | This is my wallet and I absolutely LOVE it. I don’t carry much, but I do need room for a little cash and several cards, and this is just right. It has seven card slots, a full-length cash compartment, and a small zippered coin pocket, all in a compact size that doesn’t take up half your bag.

8. The Tech Pouch: $168 in seven colors | This is SO good for keeping chargers, cords, AirPods, and all the other little tech things from floating around your bag. It has five interior compartments plus a zippered pocket, so everything has a place. Get it in a fun color so you can actually see it inside your tote.
