Dear Reader,
A couple months ago I was up past my bedtime with a girlfriend, drinking chamomile tea with honey.
We talk this way often — about what we love in each other. I told her about her quirky, positive energy. Her social intelligence.
She told me I had a way with words, and that she enjoys how my style feels undone.
Undone?
Yes, she said. I'm not sure how to describe it. Your bag is always partially open. Your sleeves are imperfectly rolled. You're never fully buttoned-up.
I’ve been thinking about that word ever since.
I’ve built this space around the way I actually feel most myself: a white tee, pretty lingerie beneath. Bare feet, clean face. Is it strange that I feel the most feminine when I’m least dolled up?
The truth is I want to put the least amount of thought into what I wear — I need to conserve my brain energy for other reflections and motherhood.
But it’s not without thought. I care a lot about the selection process: tight color palettes, strong silhouettes, the depth of a bag and whether there’s a zipper. I consider pieces carefully so that getting ready can be carefree.
Same with the habits that carry me through my days: I think hard about which ones to adopt, so that once I do, I don't have to think much about them at all.
So undone goes beyond the way I get dressed. Considered choices, carefree energy.
That’s what I want this space to be. Less about having it all figured out, more about paying attention as we go. What works. What doesn’t. What we’re keeping, what we’re questioning, what we’re still becoming.
This space has a new name:
With love,
Megan
