A few weeks ago, Karyn’s friend Nicole suggested that we add a new segment to the podcast called Questions From a Lesbian, where she asks us questions about straight men that genuinely confuse her.
It all started with that viral video of Travis Kelce slamming a beer in front of a stadium full of Chiefs fans while Taylor Swift sat beside him. Nicole wanted to know: Do straight women find that attractive? Does watching a man shotgun a beer awaken something inside us? Or, do we experience the same kind of secondhand embarrassment as she did?
You may think it’s the former—after all, look at how wee that beer can is in his giant man paws. Those are the kind of hands that can fight off an intruder, fix a carburetor, or loosen a tight seal on a jar of pickles. This is prowess, yes? Such masculinity. A show of virility and strength that practically dates back to the Neanderthals.
Yet you would be wrong.
