Envisioning, and working toward, the news ecosystem we need

We are delighted to discover, and highly recommend, an excellent podcast series on our nation’s news crisis. Scene on Radio’s eighth season – The News. It explores “the deep challenges facing American journ, and the nation’s news and information crisis.” It also asks: “What would a more independent and democratic media look like?” We particularly recommend the final episode, Making Media Democratic, which examines what a healthy news ecosystem that truly serves the public would look like and what is needed to achieve it.

The series provides a great background for our recently launched MAD Local Journalism Action Team. This initiative aims to educate and engage people like you in efforts to support local news organizations by addressing growing local news deserts and other problems besetting local media. There is a lot of progress being made a state and local levels and we will help you tap into that work. We hope you will join us for our next virtual meeting on Tuesday, July 21 at 8 pm ET!
