Homemade Hamburger Helper

My kids wanted steak for dinner, which is starting to become a little too normal around here.

So I decided it was time to humble them.

Growing up, Hamburger Helper meant ground beef, a box from the pantry, and dinner was basically done. No steak. No homemade chimichurri. Nobody was asking what cut of beef we were using.

So instead of giving my kids the steak they requested, I decided to bring back one of the classics—but make the entire thing from scratch.

It’s still incredibly easy and everything comes together in one pan, but this version has seasoned ground beef, a rich creamy sauce, plenty of cheddar, and pasta that cooks directly in all that flavor.

Unfortunately, it turned out absolutely incredible and my kids loved it, so the humbling portion of tonight’s dinner was a complete failure.

At least we found a new weeknight staple.
