In Spain the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Ransom, Institutress of the Order for the Redemption of Captives under that title. Her festival is observed on September 24.

August 11 is the feast of Blessed Maurice Tornay: Swiss-French Augustinian canon regular, missionary to Yunnan and Tibet, and martyr of the Tibetan persecutions—murdered by Buddhist lamas on this day in 1949, aged 38.

At Cracow in Poland, St Hyacinth, Confessor, of the Order of Preachers, whom Pope Clement VII set in the number of the Saints. His feast, however, is kept on August 17.
At Rome, St Stanislaus Kostka, a Pole, Confessor, of the Society of Jesus. Made perfect in a short time by the angelic innocence of his life, early achievement counted for long apprenticeship. He was numbered among the saints by Pope Benedict XIII.
At Rome, on the Appian Way, St Tharsicius, an acolyte, whom the heathen found bearing the Sacrament of the Body of Christ, and asked what it was that he bore; but he deemed it unbecoming to cast pearls before swine, and was therefore attacked by them for a long time with sticks and stones, until he gave up the ghost. When his body was moved, the sacrilegious assailants could find nothing of Christ’s Sacrament in his hands or among his clothing; but the Christians gathered up the body of the martyr and buried it with honour in the cemetery of Callistus.
