It’s been a big week for transit riders in Toronto.
If you take the TTC to get to work, to pick up groceries, to get your kids to school, or simply to move through your day, you’ve probably heard the news: we’re making real progress.
At a time when families are stretched and every dollar matters, your city should make life a little easier — and that starts with the way we move. Transit should fit your life, not the other way around. That’s why this past week, we rolled out a series of changes that make riding faster, more reliable, and more affordable.
Here’s what we’re delivering for Toronto:
A fare freeze for the third year in a row: keeping TTC fares exactly where they are while service gets faster and more reliable.
Fare capping: ride more, pay less: after 47 trips, the rest of your rides that month are free, automatically.
A move toward a 40-ride cap in 2027: even more savings for workers, students, and families.
The Finch West LRT is open: and we’re already advancing transit signal priority to help it move faster.
Accelerated signal priority for LRTs and streetcars: more green lights, fewer delays, and a smoother ride across the network.
The Scarborough Busway under construction: opening next September with a dedicated corridor that delivers a fast, reliable 15-minute trip from Scarborough Centre to Kennedy Station.
These are practical, everyday improvements that make a real difference. When you’re trying to make ends meet, choosing between groceries, rent, and getting around, these changes matter.
We are building a city that is more affordable, more caring, and easier to move through. And we’re delivering it one faster train, one safer station, one affordable fare at a time.
This is what it looks like when a City supports the people who make it run: the people. More progress is coming — and I’ll see you on the TTC.
Transit should be safe, reliable, and affordable.
Early next year I’ll be introducing my 2026 Budget, which will include fare capping on TTC. That means TTC riders will automatically ride for free after taking 47 trips per month - the equivalent of a monthly transit pass. When bills are due at the first of the month, you won’t have to worry about another big purchase. You’ll be able to pay as you go.
When you ride more, you’ll pay less.
And there’s more - I will be asking the TTC to plan for an even lower fare cap of 40 rides for the 2027 budget.
