Maxim Spasskiy · Writing Secrets

It was more challenging for me to come up with writing ideas when I wrote 1–2 articles per month than now, when I write 20 articles per month.

Anyway, let’s go step by step.

There is a big problem, and many writers know about it. This problem is a lack of writing ideas. You want to write, but don’t know what to write about.

Every time you sit down to write a new article, it’s hard to come up with writing ideas.

Because of that, you write irregularly and don’t have a writing routine. Your growth as a writer is slow and painful. You earn pennies for your writing.

It’s a common problem for many writers, especially for those who write alongside a full-time job, because their time resources for writing are even more limited.

I had the same problem. I also struggled to come up with writing ideas.

My writing progress suffered as a result.

To overcome this challenge, I developed a 3-step approach for idea generation. It provided me with 500 writing ideas I could use right away. And helped me change the game.

Moving ahead to the present, I celebrate 500+ published articles.

Finding writing ideas is no longer a problem for me. Soon it will not be a problem for you, too.

Let me give you my 3 proven steps for idea generation.

These steps will give you 500 writing ideas.

I am not a fan of having a niche from the start.

However, as I tried to write about everything at the beginning of my writing journey, I found that if you do it like that, you write about nothing. So, writing about everything is not ideal either.

The best solution is to write about areas you enjoy and are interested in, but these areas should be clearly identified and written down.

Take just big enough areas like Life, Health, Self-Improvement, etc. I would recommend listing 5–10 of such areas.

An example of my list looked like this:

  1. Writing

  2. Online Business

  3. Self-Improvement

  4. Life Lessons

  5. Health

If you want people to read your articles, you need to solve their problems.

This way, you will create value with your writing. Readers will pay for the value you create with the most precious resource they have - their time. At some point, they will even be ready to pay with their money for your solutions.

So, identify the main problems you will solve for your key areas.

List 10 problems per area.

A shorter example of my list of problems (5 of them) for a new writer in the writing area is below:

  1. Don’t know what to write about

  2. Don’t know how to grow as a writer

  3. Don’t know how often to write

  4. Don’t know how to improve writing skills

  5. Don’t know how to write good headlines

Take each of the problems that you listed.

Create 10 headlines for your articles with solutions to the problems. This exercise is fantastic. It not only helps you come up with lots of ideas to write about. You will also train and develop your skill of writing headlines along the way.

A shorter example of my headlines (5 of them) for the first problem from the list above:

  1. How to Never Run Out of Writing Ideas

  2. Don’t Know What to Write About, Read This

  3. 5 Creative Ways to Find Your Writing Inspiration

  4. How a New Writer Can Understand What to Write About (5 Proven Ways)

  5. Many Writers Don’t Know What to Write About, Find 7 Fantastic Ways to Never Run Out of Ideas

As a result of making these 3 steps you have:

  • 5 areas to write about

  • 10 problems per area to solve

  • 10 headlines for articles with solutions per problem

It gives you 5 X 10 X 10 = 500 ideas for your articles.

Write one article for each headline.

This way, these 500 headlines will be enough for you to write one article every day for more than a year.

Have a beautiful day!
