Our bookstore turned two years old.
We celebrated with a hoard of people trying to break into the bookstore (in a friendly way! we have picture proof!), on a national holiday (independent bookstore day!), and with enough free books, merch, and giveaways to open another, equally overpacked, independent bookstore.
Turning two is a massive milestone for an independent bookstore in this day and age (read: every day and age), and summarizing what it means is equally as daunting. A bookstore is only as big as the stories it holds, so thank you for making our little purple bookstore feel larger than it is with yours. This newsletter has been a long time coming, and even now, it’s feels like an impossible task to reminisce on two years of bookselling, so I won’t. Nadia, however, will.

And without further ado, a mini compilation of how we celebrated our birthday-slash-independent bookstore day:
See! They really were trying to break down the door! Nothing keeps a reader away from a good book!
Our carefully hidden golden ticket (worth an entire year of free audiobooks) was found after a whopping ten minutes. Congrats, Katie!
There were so many moments we didn’t get a chance to snap photos of, too. Like: our eight raffle winners (thank you to our sponsors, Brew Room, Plant4Good, Wallace Dry Goods, American Trench, & Char and Stave), incredible bookmark makin’ session with Studio Anywhere, and CUTE! CUTE! CUTE! pawprint painting popup with Mila’s Pup Tienda.
We will be celebrating Mavey’s second birthday properly on May 24, and you are invited. We’ll celebrate with a drawing booth! Pop-ups! Desserts! Free books! Maybe another golden ticket search (that will take nine minutes to find)! Bookish activities! & so much more, so mark your calendars twice.
Finally, Independent Bookstore Day also marked the release of our official Mavey merch (including the bag y’all helped us design!), which we released in limited quantity!
We also made new (mini!!) Mavey stickers for your discerning taste!
And finally, we have mugs now! Imagine: you walk down the street, Mavey mug in hand. Folks stumble over their shoelaces as they catch glimpse of what can only be described as their favorite bookstore’s logo on a mug! Coffee tastes better in it, tea tastes better in it, and you won’t need another mug ever again!
