This book is a different kind of sci-fi. It is character-driven, with Marda as a mother who has lost her family inside a portal between Earth and her planet. Despite everyone telling her they’re gone…she never gives up her search.
In addition to Marda, there are several characters on Earth, each with their own minor storylines in the plot. One in particular who truly touches me is Tony, a young HVAC technician from New York. He gave up on a scholarship to care for his mother, who was dying of pancreatic cancer. When she passes, Tony feels that he’s lost his identity. Caring for her was his purpose.
My mother passed away from pancreatic cancer several years ago. Authors put pieces of themselves in their books. That’s how you know a book isn’t AI-generated. I’ll confess that sometimes I’ll use an AI image or two for promotion. But the books….they’re all me! ❤️
