Everyone seems to assume the Brisbane Olympics will be good for housing.

They are probably right. But perhaps not for the reasons most people think.

The real housing story isn’t the Games themselves. It is the massive infrastructure program that sits behind them.

Over the next six years Queensland will embark on one of the largest construction programs in its history. That means thousands more construction workers, billions of dollars in new spending and enormous pressure on an industry already struggling to build enough homes.

Ironically, the Olympics may end up making housing supply even harder to deliver.
