Three new 200 speed colour negative films have launched in the last year - and Lucky 200 is the pick of the bunch.
Over the summer I’ve shot 3 rolls of Lucky 200 in my Ricoh GR1, Pentax 17, and Kodak Snapic - and I gotta say, I’m very impressed.
Lucky 200 has a very nice grain structure, medium to high saturation, and a pleasing vintage vibe thanks to the red / brown cast in the highlights.
This may not be a big deal for general purpose use, but for portraits it can be a little challenging.
Some of the colour cast (above) can be eliminated with a quick auto white balance correction in Lightroom (below), giving a much more pleasing result.
In this post I’ve only featured images from the roll I shot on the GR1 - it’s a wonderful combination which I will use again.
Lucky had a partnership with Kodak in the early 2000s. Fom these results, it shows.
