Someone at a town hall meeting asked why the city still invested in public libraries.
“People can Google anything now,” he said. “Why keep paying for buildings?”
The librarian answered, “Because not everyone has WiFi, and not every kid has a table to work at.”
No one had a reply.
“Some people come here to print forms they can’t do at home,” the librarian continued. “Some parents bring their kids here after school because they don’t have anyone else to watch them. Some students study here because their house is too crowded.”
A few people nodded.
Because libraries aren’t outdated.
Rather, they’re a critical lifeline for the people everyone else forgets.
