On how trusting the process got us a GOAT 41-year old, and we can’t wait

Dear Readers —

My initial plan for this inaugural post was to publish something about the biggest movie of the summer, Sheep Detectives. I mean, The Odyssey. But as we learned from Homer’s 3,000-year-old poem (and not Christopher Nolan’s new film), sometimes the gods intervene, and we mere mortals are left to react.

Today, July 24, 2026, has—according to our Governor—been declared LeBron James Day! Ring the Liberty Bell! Re-sign the Declaration of Independence! Cross the Delaware AGAIN! Who thought that this could actually happen? Certainly not me! I mean, I had a few Kalshi bucks on it just in case, and now I’m going to let those winnings ride on an NBA Championship—eh, he’s 41 y/o. Maybe just a Finals appearance. On second thought, he’s been in the League longer than Odysseus was away, so let’s just get out of the second round, please!

This is easily one of the most fun Philly free agency chases I can remember, in large part because it never made much sense narratively for him to come to Philly. I think Bryce Harper is still my favorite. That had: (1) a guy in his prime; (2) one of the best players in the league; (3) stealing a prospect from a division rival. Remember LeBron and Harper were both on Sports Illustrated covers as high school phenoms around the same time? Maybe this is some long-running conspiracy? I’m sure Sam Hinkie RIP always knew.1

But at no point was I tracking more obscure private airport ETAs than when Bryce was looking. LeBron is probably such a close second—even though we’re talking about a 41–y/o vet.

Nevertheless, I want to give a special shoutout to all the Philly sleuths who’ve been putting in the work to track down LeBron’s next move.

Like when someone noted that he said “Trust the Process” at a recent event . . .

Or when Tyrese Haliburton jokingly asked if he was going into year 76 in the NBA . . .

Or the people who somehow claimed to know where his daughter was enrolling in school . . .

Or those who flagged how Maxey* had an asterisk next to his name when Rich Paul was discussing options . . .

Or the flight trackers . . .

And last but not least, the guy who allegedly figured out which Golf Galaxy in the Philly area LeBron was at.

Just kudos to everyone! Team effort!

Anyway, I’ve gone on too long and now need to spend some time figuring out which 76ers jersey I need to buy. I’m thinking the retro 80s era, but TBH LeBron looks solid in the Iverson-era kits. Tough decisions.

Until then, I highly recommend that you watch the video LeBron posted during his announcement—Meek Mill songs are always hometown winner. If you need me I’ll be injecting LeBron content into my veins for the next 48 to 72 hours.

To my knowledge, Sam Hinkie is in fact still alive.
