Donald Trump’s so-called “Board of Peace” – a corollary of his Gaza redevelopment plan – is not only the fascist and corporatist alternative to the United Nations; it is the logical endpoint of the genocide and war crimes that unfolded in full view of the West and went unpunished – the Israeli destruction of Palestinian society through systematic violence, mass displacement, and political erasure.
This is liquidation, and Trump’s Gaza plan simply draws the final conclusion… the final solution… For if a people can be destroyed without consequence, their land can be repurposed; if a nation can be erased without sanction, its sovereignty is a mere inconvenience to be appropriated for global capital.
Through the empire and its vassal state in the Middle East, the erasure of Gaza leads to a luxury beachfront development, integrated into a regional capitalist economy. Palestinians now become simply a cheap labour pool, a servant class for hotels and marinas. Colonialism is back in its updated 21st century format.
Israel’s genocide in Gaza and the continued oppression and systematic persecution of Palestinians in the Occupied West Bank is indisputable: entire neighbourhoods are still being levelled, civil infrastructure has been obliterated, the UNRWA headquarters razed to the ground, and a population subjected to starvation, forced displacement, and indiscriminate killing – over 71,000 dead, over 171,000 injured, entire family bloodlines wiped out, thousands of child victims amputated without anaesthetic.
The West did not intervene. Europeans and the US armed, funded, and gave diplomatic cover to Israel. We ignored international law, breaking the covenant of the international legal norms and guarantees that the UN was founded for.
Trump’s Board of Peace is the result of the West’s abominable silence.
Never again? Power repeats its logic…
The historical echoes are chilling – the UN was founded as a peace project that created the post-WWII order on the back of the Holocaust. Instead we have watched on our smartphones an entire population reduced to rubble. First extermination, then containment: the survivors of this wicked war game get to live in a property development project.
And if Malta’s prime minister cannot see through this rogue project, articulated openly by a dangerous imperialist, then this island would have caved in to the endgame perpetrated by Israel and global capital.
