Matthew Poirier · Boston Stories Vol. 2

After the whole thing with my doppelgänger, I thought a trip to visit my therapist was in order. When I walked into his office, he was sitting behind his desk, but stood up and moved his seat by its wheels around to the other side.

“Why don’t you have a seat here, in this chair?” He said.

“I’d prefer to lie on the couch if that’s an option.”

“It’s not. We need to get it cleaned.”

I turned to see what he meant. It was covered in some kind of oily substance.

“My previous patient thinks he’s a lobster. The couch was covered in melted butter for him.”

“Okay, I’ll just sit here then.”

“Speaking of seafood, have you tried the Von Fishwich at that Von Dieter’s over on Newbury Street?”

“No, I’ve been out of commission for a week, so I’m still catching up on things.”
