Magic Memory Potion

Having just come home from a very enjoyable dinner with some of my meditation teacher colleagues, I went to the bathroom and opened a drawer but rather than find what I was looking for, I came across a 200ml bottle of Vidyarthi Amrit I had purchased in India 18 months earlier.

Now what is this strange bottle produced by Maharishi Ayurveda for I hear you ask - well - as it says on the packet - it's for memory health management. It goes as far as to boast that just 5 mls a day will boost mental ability, brain functioning, intelligence and growth.

Who wouldn't want that I hear you proclaim.

Which brings me to the point of this post - I remember being so excited by the prospect of boosting my memory that I bought two bottles of it (the most i could take home with me) but then - rather than have the 5mls a day, as the bottles instructions suggested - I treated it as something sacred that shouldn't be wasted and the end result - 18 months later - i have a nearly full bottle that is now expired.

So what's the point?

There really is no time like the present.

Take the holiday.

Kiss the girl/guy.

Drink the potion.

We dont want to be the guy who finally gets the sports car when we're too old to drive it - or like me - the guy that gets the magic memory health management potion - but forgets to take it and now finds it expired.

"Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why they call it the present."

Alice Morse Earl once famously said this, and less famously but more memorably for me, I once received a necklace at Burning Man that had the last two sentences inscribed on it.

Clearly, I needed to find the expired memory formula to remind me of the sentiment of Alice's statement.

And from the Vedic perspective, don't worry about the plan b - just get a new plan a when the potion runs out.

As my teacher Thom Knoles once said - saving for a rainy day is the best way of ensuring you get one.

Or as my late and great Aunty Betty used to say - to hell with poverty, give the cat another canary.

Or as Nike says, just do it.

Below - the magic memory potion I forgot about.
