Why I’m transitioning the newsletter to English?

Hi everyone! As many of you know, I am Italian, and the project Mathone started in my native language for that very reason. However, since I have spent the last 5 years living and working outside of Italy, the idea of rebranding and switching to English has come up in several conversations.

At this stage of my career as a postdoc at the University of Cambridge, my academic network has become more international than Italian. Transitioning to English is a strategic move for my professional future, especially as I look toward applying for permanent academic positions in the coming years.

What is changing?

• Language: Starting from January 2026, this newsletter will be written in English. Please note: this is the only post that will feature a bilingual version. From next week onwards, the content will be in English only.

• YouTube: The same transition will happen on my YouTube channel. I will provide Italian subtitles, and I plan to use automatic dubbing to keep the content accessible to my original community. I will also be able to involve friends, colleagues, and collaborators in some of the videos I will record after this switch.

• Schedule: I commit to sharing a new post every Wednesday on this newsletter.

What is staying the same? The topics will remain familiar: Numerical Analysis, Applied Mathematics, Dynamical Systems, Machine Learning, and insights into my academic experience. Most importantly, my mission remains the same: I will not assume too much background knowledge, and I will continue to explain complex concepts as clearly as I can.

Ciao a tutti! Come molti di voi sanno, sono italiano e il progetto Mathone è nato nella mia lingua madre proprio per questo motivo. Tuttavia, avendo trascorso gli ultimi 5 anni vivendo e lavorando fuori dall’Italia, l’idea di un rebranding e del passaggio all’inglese è emersa spesso nei miei confronti con colleghi e amici.

In questa fase della mia carriera come postdoc all'Università di Cambridge, la mia rete accademica è diventata più internazionale che italiana. Passare all'inglese è una mossa strategica per il mio futuro professionale, specialmente in vista delle domande per posizioni accademiche permanenti nei prossimi anni.

Cosa cambierà?

• Lingua: Dal 2026, la newsletter sarà scritta in inglese. Nota bene: questa doppia versione è presente solo in questo post inaugurale. Dalla prossima settimana, i contenuti saranno esclusivamente in inglese.

• YouTube: Anche il canale passerà all’inglese, ma aggiungerò sottotitoli in italiano e utilizzerò il doppiaggio automatico. Questo cambio all’inglese mi permetterà anche di coinvolgere amici, colleghi e collaboratori in alcuni dei video che registrerò d’ora in avanti.

• Frequenza: Mi impegno a pubblicare un nuovo post ogni mercoledì in questa newsletter.

Cosa NON cambierà? I temi resteranno gli stessi: Analisi Numerica, Matematica Applicata, Sistemi Dinamici, Machine Learning e vita accademica. Il mio approccio non cambierà: non darò per scontate troppe conoscenze pregresse e continuerò a spiegare ogni argomento con la massima chiarezza possibile.
