Motivation is fleeting and it comes in waves.
It’s more compassionate to oneself to be disciplined.

I = π + Σv
Which translates to:
Identity = π + (x,y,z,…)
Meaning:
Identity = constants + variables
Know your constants because those are what last when the variables are gone.
The variables are just that: variables. They’re not meant to last and holding on to them and not knowing your constants throws most people into an abyss because they don’t know who they are and how to act when the variables disappear.

Don’t romanticize the idea in your head.
Stress test it - put it to work instead of just building it up in your head and doing nothing about it.
Gabor Maté on what holds people back:
“Comfort is the most dangerous addiction in the modern world.”
Viktor Frankl on having a purpose in life:
“A man who lacks purpose distracts himself with pleasure.”
James clear on potential:
“Your potential means nothing if your habits contradict it.”
Write down the identity equation in front of you.
Identity = constants (or core) + variables
Then map out your cores - one of my favorite examples is Simon Sinek’s, he says:
I’m an optimist [core] and an author [variable].
So when you lose your variables, you don’t lose yourself.
And the moment you acknowledge your variables as variables, you lose your attachment to them.
What’s your π? (your constant/s)
Malcom Gladwell’s an artist. So here’s another one of his masterpieces: David & Goliath.
My favorite book of his is Outliers, but this one comes as a close second. It’s just relatable because it tells the kind of stories we all hold onto the edges of our seats for. Stories of how those no one expected anything of defied those non-believers and became and created some incredible things.
It’s what we dream of for ourselves. So it gives hope. It gives me hope.
Enjoy the read.

I also happen to coach people. I learned from one of the world’s best, Robert Ellis.
Would you like to have a coaching conversation? Sometimes all it takes is a 30-minute deep conversation to point you in the right direction. Or give you a little nudge. Maybe you just need someone to hear you out. I’m here for you.
