Mary · Fiction And Also Cats

Everything was under control, right up until it wasn’t. No one had predicted that Mando would lose his little mind over catnip. Most cats got a little “high.” They were supposed to relax, enjoy the trip, so to speak. No, Mando grabbed the toy, started growling at Motron, and became a little demon.

Motron, on the other hand, was unfazed. He simply stared at his brother, not quite sure why he’d suddenly turned on him, but also unbothered that he had. It could be the 4 lbs that he had on Mando. If they were humans in a bar fight, Motron would have no problems taking Mando down, then chugging back a beer.

But they were cats, and right now Mando had a stuffed blue and white little jug of milk he was growling over. He walked in circles around Motron, his eyes beady — he was going to protect that toy at all costs. When Motron made a step, Mando swiftly moved in the opposite direction (maybe he wasn’t as brave as the catnip made him seem) and high-tailed it into a box where he apparently felt safe. He settled down with the toy.

Now it was up to Mama and Papa to get the toy that had sent their sweet little cat into a frenzy. Not sure if he’d go after them, they approached cautiously. Papa stopped and went and grabbed a glove, in case Mando went for the hand.

The plan was to reach down and grab it quickly, before Mando realized what was going on. Everything was under control, right up until it wasn’t.

Hi all! A short break from our usual Tuesday Tales because my dad has been in the hospital. This was original published on Medium with the rules being to start and end the story with the line “Everything was under control, right up until it wasn’t” and use the key word “beer”. Hope you all enjoyed this little chaotic tale and if all goes well we should be back to our regular program next week. Thanks so much for your support and patience.
