Baby Doll, your whole life has been about recognizing silver linings. What comes to mind is when you read that starter husband loved two women. Something broke. Your world fell. You didn’t care about yourself anymore. You started smoking and you cried and cried. No one informed you of any details and without agency you never asked. We know you didn’t advocate for yourself. The man you married loved Jesus and preached about it. The man you thought protected you, betrayed you. At age twenty-three you thought your life was over but sweet pie, I was and still am watching you and listening. You had babies because they said it would help the marriage.

After thirteen years of marriage, you fell in love with a woman. You fought the eighties homophobia and eventually you were betrayed again. This time you wanted to end your life. You couldn’t believe how a fairytale life would end with betrayals. You wanted the freaking fairy tale! We were there Mary Beth; we communicated constantly with you in two-way prayer. You listened even though your anger dominated your heart. Who could you trust, you wondered. Finally, through your writing you felt peace and met someone who quietly adores you. Now, MB, you are in control and happy to create your sanctuary and most of all you found your jeweled lining in the sweet peace of loving Mary Beth. You became visible to yourself through writing, and asking forgiveness.
