Martin Kubler · The Gluttonous Sloth

Ramadan Kareem! Welcome to the April 2022 TGS! How’s Q2 treating you so far? I’ve been busy working on my Q2 and summer plans and if you’re still struggling with getting organised and cranking up your business engine, drop me a message here or pop into my virtual office during the next TGS Office Hours on 22nd April (https://fb.me/e/1JSIavz6v or https://cutt.ly/BMC-X-TGS-OH).

A little while ago, I put up a post on my social media about rules for rebels, heretics, and mavericks in organizations and the it attracted a lot of likes and comments. I didn’t make up these rules, mind - they were originally put together by a bunch of people at NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The renegade group behind the rules would eventually become known as the NASA “Pirates” and create an award-winning mission control system for the space shuttle program in record time, on a shoestring budget, and in the face of political resistance.
The NASA “Pirates” were pioneers in agile practices, even before agility entered the organizational vocabulary and their story offers important lessons for all organizations in how renegades can help business balance the often competing goals of efficiency and innovation. You can read the full story of the NASA “Pirates” here.

The 21st century, hey? So far, it’s brought us things like social media, multi-use rockets, blockchain technology, 3D-printing, and, of course, the “on-demand” economy. Ostensibly, virtually everything’s “on-demand” these days, isn’t it? Every day, millions of people use “on-demand” services for education, health, groceries, transportation, or food delivery and that’s all fine and dandy, but what about “on-demand” rockstar consulting? If you can get a pizza when you want and need it or if you can get a ride at the click of a button, why can’t you get superb business consulting “on-demand”? Well, now you can!

TSOD - The Sloth On Demand is problem-solving, advice, and consulting at the click of a button. When you want it, where you want it, for how long you want it. Just like on-demand groceries, it's not cheap, but it's terribly convenient. If you're stuck with a problem, can't seem to agree on the way forward, lack creative ideas, or just need a fresh pair of eyes or a sounding board for your ideas, #TheSlothOnDemand is for you.

You can read more about TSOD and how it fills a void in the Sloth’s consulting offers here, but, honestly, it’s better than ordering pizza or donuts online! It has zero calories and, potentially, a much bigger impact on your business. Plus, you don’t need to take the empty pizza cartons to your trash bin afterwards and have your neighbours look at you judgingly.

Previously, I ranted about corporate vision and mission statements and why they’re mostly rubbish. Eventually, I tidied up my thoughts and rants a little and turned them into an article for Hotel & Catering News ME, which you can read here.

If you happen to find yourself in Stockholm on 24th and 25th May 2022 or if you fancy combining an early Summer holiday with a visit to the largest trade fair for fast-food, cafes, and restaurants in Northern Europe, why not meet the Sloth at FFCR 2022? Arranging a meeting is a one-click affair: Click! If you can’t make it to Stockholm, but are generally interested in leads for potential suppliers, customers, or connections to expand your business to Northern Europe, feel free to contact me before the show and I’ll see how I can help you.

April in Sweden is a funny month, because - much like in Dubai - people are trying to squeeze as much as business as possible into the months before the Summer break. Luckily, I’m used to that rhythm, so I’m prepared. A few weeks ago, I attended GastroNord 2022, Northern Europe’s leading HORECA trade fair - there’s a lot of interest from businesses here in expanding to the Middle East and I’m working on a number of interesting leads.

Also, it’s the last month of my UAE data protection law offers, because the compliance deadline is 28th May 2022. If you haven’t sorted out your website and marketing activities to make sure they’re complying with the new law, click here.

The next TGS Office Hours are on Friday, 22nd March 2022 at 9 a.m. CEST (11 a.m. GST) and you can book your slot here or else just keep an eye on my Twitter feeds and Facebook Events for future dates & times.

What else is going on?

  • SME10x, the the leading online portal for news and resources for SMEs in the Middle East, recently published two of my articles about the new UAE data protection law and you can read them here and here.

  • The Sloth is now fully registered with Bolagsverket, the Swedish company registrar, and even the Google Business listing is finally up and running.

  • Are you based in Spain or Germany? If so, I’d like to hear from you, because I’ll be there over the summer months and open for coffee (or sangria) meet-ups or consulting and training gigs.

  • stuffonmycat.com → Photos of cats with stuff on them, because why not?

  • V1 Windows 93 → Have you ever used Windows systems of the 1990s? If not, then here’s your chance.

  • Generative Engine → An AI-powered storytelling machine that automatically generates synthetic images as you write new words and sentences. Enjoy!
