Its Solstice, and the energy of summer is palpable.
The Summer Solstice marks the fullness of summer; and it is the longest day of the year. The Earth is lush and fertile, and there is traditionally a huge celebration to mark this time.
It’s a time of fire energy, of passion and joy. In older times, and in some cultures, parties and celebrations abound. The long work of preparing the land and planting is done; now is the time to enjoy the sunlight, the warmth and some additional daylight before the Earth turns back towards shorter days and increasing darkness. Before the work of the harvest begins.
But then this is the beauty of stopping to recognize this day, this season and to celebrate what is. When we can learn to be present to where we are and what is, we can have a fuller appreciation of it. We can feel the seasons and the rhythms of the Earth.
Being aware of and attuned to the Earth and the ebbs and flows of her seasons allows us to be more present in our own lives and to be able to stop and honor our patterns and seasons as well. One on the many gifts that the natural world offers us, if we but stop and notice.
Happy Solstice…May you enjoy the peak summer energy, the sunlight and longer days. May you find joy in the summer season and celebrate.
