Hi there 🧡

It’s 6pm.

You close your laptop.

And within 30 seconds, there it is.

The guilt.

You scroll Instagram.

Someone just posted their “5am morning routine.”

Another one shipped 3 projects this week.

A third is “grateful for another 10-hour productive day.”

And one more about his to do list to work until 1am.

And you?

You stopped at 6.

You feel stupid. Small. Behind.

Like everyone else figured out the secret formula and you’re still searching for it.

Here’s the problem:

That’s not motivation. That’s a trap.

And the guilt isn’t even about doing the wrong thing.

It’s the voice that says: “I could do more. Others are doing it. Why can’t I?”

That’s comparison talking.

You see someone posting about their “record month.”

Someone else who just launched their third product this year.

Another solopreneur who seems to have it all figured out.

And suddenly, you feel stupid. Like you’re the only one who can’t keep up.

Here’s what that guilt actually does:

It cuts you off from the present. You’re so busy watching others that you lose sight of your own path. Blinders on. Head down. Moving, but not seeing.

Like a nearsighted person without their glasses.

Everything’s blurry. Distorted. You think you’re behind, but you can’t see clearly enough to know.

Now imagine that same person finds their glasses.

They take a step back. They look at everything they’ve actually built. Everything they’ve moved forward. Maybe it’s not perfect, but it’s real. And it’s theirs.

That’s what rest gives you. Perspective.

The hustle culture myth goes like this:

More hours = more results.

Push harder = move faster.

Rest = laziness.

It sounds logical.

It’s completely wrong.

And I know this because I lived it.

I felt completely off, extremely tired, foggy, not quite right. The kind of tired where you wake up already exhausted & you are waiting for the bed time all day long. But I had hundreds things to do, deadlines to hit, goals I’d committed to. So I did what most solopreneurs do: I told myself it was fine, that I just needed to push through this one week and then I’d slow down.

My body had other plans.

It didn’t give me a warning. It didn’t ask for a meeting to discuss. It just stopped & I spent three days completely flat, unable to get up, unable to work, unable to do anything at all. Three days where everything I’d been “pushing through for” sat there, waiting, while I lay in bed staring at the ceiling.

That’s the real cost of ignoring your limits. Not discipline. Not hustle. A forced shutdown that happens at the worst possible moment, on your body’s schedule, not yours.

Here’s the reframe:

Rest isn’t the opposite of productivity.

It’s part of it.

A surgeon doesn’t operate for 72 hours straight and call it dedication. A marathon runner doesn’t skip recovery weeks and call it commitment.

Why do we, as solopreneurs, think we’re the exception?

We’re not.

Chosen rest is strategy. Collapse is not.

There’s a massive difference between deciding to close your laptop at 6pm because you’ve done enough & being forced to spend 3 days in bed because you ignored every signal your body sent.

One is a decision. The other is a consequence.

And here’s something else worth remembering:

You’re not building a house with concrete and bricks.

Online, nothing is set in stone. You can mold, adjust, improve as you go. You finished the project on the 14th instead of the 12th?

Good. You finished it. That’s what counts.

The goal isn’t to be perfect on the first try. The goal is to be proud, to feel like you’re moving, even when it’s messy. To have that feeling that anything is possible. That nothing can stop you.

Because real momentum looks like this: conscious choices, one after another, without waiting for someone else’s permission or validation.

This isn’t toxic hustle. It’s real life, with unexpected days, chaos, and things that go sideways. We don’t control everything. We adapt. We keep going.

On our own terms.

If you want to start making those conscious choices, the first step is actually seeing your time.

That's exactly why I built my Time Tracker template, so you can look at your week clearly, without the guilt of what you didn't do, and with full awareness of what you actually did. All for free.

Get for free your time tracker!

So next time the guilt shows up at 6pm?

Look at it straight.

Ask: “Did I do something today?”

Even one thing. Even a small thing.

Then close the laptop. No negotiation.

You’re not failing. You’re not falling behind.

You’re building something real, in a real life, with messy days, unexpected things, and a body that needs rest to keep going.

That’s not weakness. That’s the actual game.

Period.

Stay awesome 🧡

Marlene
