I’ve been in public service long enough to recognize that every two years, folks claim the November elections are the most important ever. I know it can be hard to believe.
But I’m here to tell you that this year, I mean it.
In all my years serving Virginians – as your Governor and now as your Senator – I’ve never seen anything like this second Trump administration.
At a time when Americans are facing an affordability crisis, Trump’s war-of-choice and reckless tariffs are causing costs to skyrocket.
His failed leadership has damaged America’s standing on the world stage, alienating our allies and making us all less safe.
His cruel policies have gutted health care access for millions of Americans, all to pay for tax breaks for those at the very top.
And he’s peddling unhinged conspiracy theories about our elections – claiming the 2020 election he lost was rigged, sending the federal government to seize voter rolls in states like Georgia, and he seems to be laying the groundwork to federalize elections.
Never in my lifetime did I think we would see this kind of crap – and far too many of my Republican colleagues refuse to stand up and hold this administration accountable.
It’s clear to me that the only way to finally put some checks on this administration is to flip the balance of power in Congress.
That means organizing everywhere, competing for every last vote, and electing Democrats up and down the ballot who will fight for working families and put some much-needed guardrails on this president.
This year, Virginia has a critical role to play. Not only do we have a Senate seat to defend, but across our Commonwealth, there are battleground House seats that will determine control of Congress.
Today, voters will decide the party nominees in must-win races across Virginia. Once the stage is set, we will officially enter the general election – and the final, all-out sprint to reach and turn out voters before Election Day.
I’m committed to giving my all – not just in my own race, but in races up and down the ballot to elect Virginia Democrats and flip control of Congress.
That means campaigning as I always have – traveling the Commonwealth and talking to voters directly – about what is at stake, and most importantly, what Virginia Democrats will accomplish if we flip the balance of power in Washington:
A plan for universal health care coverage in this country.
Reining in these data centers that are popping up all over the Commonwealth.
Holding Trump accountable for his actions that have allowed him and his family to profit at taxpayers’ expense.
Preparing our economy for the jobs of the future.
And keeping Americans safe, at home and abroad.
So Virginia Democrats, we have one mission. And it’s simple:
We have to win, and we have to win by such a large margin that no matter what nonsense Donald Trump throws at us, there is no doubt where Virginia stands.
Now let’s go out there and get it done.
More soon,
Mark Warner
