What I'm Doing Now 2026-01

That promise of crisp, sunny days for the Kanto area I wrote about in November has been fulfilled and how! Here’s a photo taken in Inatori Onsen (稲取温泉), a small seaside town on the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka prefecture. Although it was only two hours by train from Tokyo we still enjoyed a relaxing one-night onsen experience far from the madding crowds.

There are downsides however. One is that fire’s an ever present risk, and the other involves the spread of flu.
Be careful out there.

Here are some of this month’s highlights:

Finished Charles Frazier’s novel “Cold Mountain” and Peter Cawdron’s sci-fi first contact novel, “Anomaly”. Both were excellent reads in their respective genres. Too many good books, too little time - a great way of saying I need to spend more time reading and less time online.

Began another year of using the Hobonichi Techo 2026 (A6-size) Diary. I like pen and paper for daily tasks and important goals. One of these days I’ll write a post on how I am using this wonderful product; just need to sit down and make a start!

Bought some more Kokuyo A5 soft ring notebooks. Writing with pen and paper has been nudging me for a while now (even though this NOW entry made it from my brain straight onto the screen).

Wondering if I can and I should write some serial fiction? I have the basic story idea (well, the opening at any rate) but not sure yet if I have the time and energy to commit to this type of project.
